Standards
The Public Sector Standards Commissioner has issued four binding standards. The standards tell employers what they must do but not how they will do it. This allows them the freedom to establish employment processes that suit their culture.
Fair and reasonable treatment is central to understanding and applying the other principles. If organisations get that principle right, they are more likely to have a productive and harmonious workplace.
Merit applies to all employment decisions not just recruitment. For example it also applies to selection for development opportunities and assignment of work.
Equal employment opportunity is about providing a fair go to all people by only considering relevant facts when making employment decisions.
Redress is about discussing and resolving workplace issues.
The Public Sector Standards Commissioner has also issued guidelines to support application of the Victorian public sector employment principles and these binding standards.
An html version of the Standards and Guidelines are available.
