Workforce Planning & Development

The role of the State Service Authority (the Authority) is to foster the development of an efficient, integrated and responsive public sector which is highly ethical, accountable and professional in the ways it delivers services to the Victorian community.

The Authority supports public sector employers with workforce planning and development issues such as recruitment, retention, professional development, remuneration and human resource management, from a whole of government perspective.

Working together with public sector organisations, the Authority has an important role to play in demonstrating and reinforcing the Victorian public sector values and employment principles outlined in the Public Administration Act 2004 (PDFPDF 569KB).

The Authority works across a number of key areas:
  • support for the Victorian Public sector in addressing the challenges of workforce planning
  • the promotion of professionalism and leadership with the Victorian public sector through leadership and management development programs and research relating to workforce development
  • the promotion of the Victorian Public Service (VPS) as a rewarding career choice for graduates and the management of the Graduate Recruitment and Development Scheme
  • the promotion of careers in public administration, both within the public sector and to the general community, through attraction and careers promotion
.

Workforce Planning Conference 2007

In June 2007, the State Services Authority hosted the two-day Workforce Planning Conference 2007. The Conference was part of the Authority’s ongoing work to assist the Victorian public sector in meeting the challenges that confront it.

The program for the conference was varied and interactive and drew speakers from the private and public sector.

Presentations from a number of key speakers may be accessed from the relevant sections of the Victorian Government Victorian Government Action Framework. Alternatively, the presentations (and details about individual speakers) may be accessed from Workforce Planning Conference 2007 page.
